A Little Freshness for Tomorrow

Delmore Schwartz's poem:

"I am cherry alive," the little girl sang,
"Each morning I am something new:
I am apple, I am plum, I am just as excited
As the boys who made the Hallowe'en bang:
I am tree, I am cat, I am blossom too:
When I like, if I like, I can be someone new,
Someone very old, a witch in a zoo:
I can be someone else whenever I think who,
And I want to be everything sometimes too:

But I don't tell the grown-ups: because it is sad,
And I want them to laugh just like I do
Because they grew up and forgot what they knew
and they are sure I will forget it some day too:

They are wrong, They are wrong. When I sang my song, I knew I
knew!

I am red, I am gold, I am green, I am blue,
I will always be me, I will always be new!"
This is clearly so true
Keller

It's like Peter Pan! I don't want to grow up after reading this.

i think this is really just saying how we forget to be ourselves, and to not live for others. people think life will just never end but we only have a little time so lets all just be grapes or trees that touch the sky!!!

ironcross_900, are you trying to add images to your comments? I don't think that this is possible. However, you can include in your post an external link to a photo on a hosting service, like photobucket.

Jocelynn, this guide might help you. It explains how to leave a comment, if that is what you are having problems with.

I like this poem. Everyone is trying to all serious all the time, believing that there is no time for pretending and fun. Maybe that's why there's so much anti-depressent medicine. If people will just learn to have fun more often, not as much anti-depresents will be flushed down the toilets. Get happy, people!

You can always have fun with everything you do.

So relax.

It's also showing how little kids have a wide imagination.

This is a good poem and it's so funny but it's gave an idea like you won't forget what happen in your life that you know it's true.
