Bicycle Sharing in DC

Our last Question of the Week asked what it would take to make Americans drive less. Well, this may be just the thing. The nation's first bicycle-sharing program will be started next month in Washington, DC; in the program, there are 120 bikes at 10 locations in the city. The bikes use SmartCard technology, so that if they are stolen or used for more than the three hour maximum, the subscriber using the bike will be charged accordingly. This will lessen the demand on the city's transit systems and reduce pollution. Check out the video below, which shows one of the bikes in action. Let's hope that automated bicycle-sharing programs such as this one make their way to the Treasure Valley!

I like this idea.
I once saw a college that did this around their campus. i think that its a good idea to get people peddling instead of depending so much on cars.

since last weeks blog is blocked im guna answer it here!!
i think that the only way that americans will drive less is if we get like a curfew or somting like that....there are so many lazy and uncaring americans out there that dont really worry about what our world is going through right now...i think that if our nation came up with a law that stated that you are only allowed to drive if you are traveling for 15 miles or more....and ride your bike as much as possible... idk but thats just my opinion...=))

I'm sorry, but the last Question is closed to all comments, and further ones are not eligible for points, unless circumstances permit (talk to Mr. Keller). Each Question is up for one week, which should be enough time to visit and leave a comment. They are even open for the majority of the weekend. It's important to note that the Questions may not be worth many points individually, but it adds up quick. So just take a minute the day you are told about the question to go answer it, that way you won't forget later on in the week.

that is such a good idea, i hate riding my bike around in the city because i am paranoid of it getting stolen. i think bikes are also faster in the city, well depending on the rider anyway. keller we should race.
