This school year has been one filled with countless remarkable experiences and unforgettable personalities. Like every time period in life, we will remember certain aspects of these experiences and take away some fascinating pieces of information. What are at least two new things you learned this year in Biology that you found interesting? And what was the most memorable moment in class for you?
(This is the last Question of the Week. Thank you for your participation, and we hope that these discussions provided you with an enjoyable new twist on the academic experience. We would appreciate if you would take the time to answer a short survey to help us improve the design of Galumpher's Life. Thank you.)

i learned that people throw poop in the streets and that people live on 1 dollar a day in some places
Okay to start off two new things that I learned in Biology this year: one is probably one I will never forget DNA. Everyone should know adenine, cytosine, thymine, and guamine the four nitrogen bases.
Second would probably be Cell Parts like cell membrane, cell wall(plants), mitochondria, vacuole, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Ribosomes, the nucleus, lysosomes, chloroplasts(plants). Stuff like that! I loved learning about the cells it is what makes living things!!
Well although there was many memories the main thing I will remember is all the fun things I got to debate about when we had free time: like the killing of the wolves and censorship on books.... in which if you are in my class probably know my stance on both issues... Also Richard you are always wrong... sorry! except on guns!

two things...
well one thing that was just mentioned in the beging, yet still has not left my mind, is that right now some one is either watching me type this, or will read what i wrote, and the other things that have popped up on this computer.
another is dna, like kacey said... adnine, cytosine, thumine, guamine. cant ever forget those.
the one thing i cant forget, is watching natily disecting. oh man so funny. i love you to death, but i cant help but laugh babe, sorry.
(oh and i think keller learned that i cant shut up, and he needs melonie there for back up all the time, hahaha)
Two things I've learned...
1) I learned the Carbon Oxygen cycle.
2) And I learned what glucose is too. (cell stuff)
My most memorable thing, even though it didn't happen in class, but Mr.Keller did it, was when he was running around the school in a bunny suit, and Mr.Goellener was hunting because it was "Wabbit Season" haha! :]
Pretty intense year, I'll say.
Biology this year was, I can honestly say, unlike any other science class to date. Between unique teaching, many memorable beginning of class lectures, and truly fascinating material, the world of science simply became a lot more interesting this year. All it takes is a little awakening, an opening of the eyes, per say.
Of all the amazing processes and structures we learned about this year, three in particular stand out in my mind. First, the tantalizing process of photosynthesis. I already knew the simple concept that "sunlight makes plants grow," but I never stopped to imagine the mind-boggling complexity of the Light Cycle and the Dark Reactions, the processes in the chloroplast that drive the creation of ATP and later glucose, and the fascinating correlation between the mitochondria and chloroplast (cellular respiration and photosynthesis/carbon-oxygen cycle). It was, to say the least, captivating.
Second, we have the world of cells. These basic building blocks of life are dazzling pieces of machinery that never cease to amaze with their complexity. The multitude of tasks completed by organelles even so seemingly simple as the cell membrane are awesome to learn about. And who can forget the nucleus; that small control center that contains all the information that makes up who we are.
This leads me to my last, but by far the greatest thing I have learned about this year. Deoxyribonucleic Acid: that simple, elegant, yet beautifully imperfect code, constantly revealing more and more levels of complexity as willing scholars explore its double helix. Then the RNA! The perfect complement to its partner and an essential tool for the reading of our internal instruction book. The processes of transcription and translation, previously unknown to me and my rudimentary knowledge of DNA, makes the role of the code in the body perfectly clear. Combine this newly gained knowledge with an understanding of Darwin's amazing theory of evolution and you are left with an intuitive and refreshing way to view the biodiversity around us. Random mutation and common descent are so beautifully simple and the examples of them in the world around us prove exciting to discover.
These three things have honestly improved my life by changing the way I look at the world. For myself, everything simply becomes more exciting when I can understand the biological processes underlying it all. In addition to learning about these amazing things, there have been many memorable moments over the course of the year. Frankly, the most unforgettable moments of this year were the tests. I have never seen a teacher with such an approach towards testing. I am fairly certain that we shall never again take such "room-wide" tests, in high school or college.
This year has truly provided me with fascinating knowledge and eye-opening experiences that I will fondly recall this summer and beyond and will serve me well as life continues.
I have learned that half of the world is in poverty and that photosynthesis helps plants to grow.
-Mitchell Rawson
I learned that frogs are like us, and that Mr. Keller would be a great Snow Plow driver...
-luke anderson
I found that Mr. Keller was raised by wolves, and to me that’s kinda interesting. Another thing i found interesting was that DNA holds all answers to our body..
The most memorable moment for me was Mr. Keller demonstrating how he would dance if he had a striping pole haha.
I learned that middleton is ahead of skyview in the learning process.
and i also learned that the readings keller gives are very useful. in the class and outside.
Another thing i learned is DNA.
It is very complicated.
umm.
i don't really have a memorable class moment since i just moved here a couple months ago..but i would have to say,
Luke& tucker acting all smart and like good kids to the sub the other day...or krista when we disected the frog. haha
xoxo

1- Ive learned that poverty is a huge problem in our world and it needs MAJOR help over taking it.
2- I have learned that Global Warming will eventually kill us all if we dont do our part to stop it.
Something momorable this year in Biology was when we dissected the frogs and Kaeli and me skinned ours and got to see all the muscles. hah.
The main things I learned this year were probably about Global Warming, I really didn't know a ton about it before and it was interesting finding out how it causes problems and what it is.
Another thing I learned was all about DNA and the things they could eventually do with it, like cure diseases and such.
This was a really fun year of science, I'm going to miss this class.

I already knew this but i learned more into it and its true meaning.. that every little organism has a purpose in life that we must not forget about them that without them we would have nothing to study in biology :)... I also learned that between the choice of using paper or plastic shopping bags.. neither is good at all for the environment.. but to help carry your groceries.. choose PLASTIC (I think???)
I had a fun year in Biology :)
Even though i don't talk so much ...
Olivia Raass
The first thing that I learned is how fortunate we are to have all of the things that we have including an education. That we have more to live on than just a dollar a day.
The second thing I learned was that most everything relates to DNA in one way or another.
I learned how to make a DNA strand and I learned all the cycles..My memorable moment in class is where 1 kid ate butterfly alive.
my most memorable moment wasnt exactly in class but it was when keller dressed up in his bunny suit and came to mr.lightfoots class. It was so funny i dont think i ever heard a scream like his. This year i learned that frogs stink!! But i learned that they have so many eggs because not all of them live. I also learned that people poop in plastic bags and throw it. that was sick also. but this year was so much fun and its gonna suck not being able to bother you everyday keller. Haha.
adri
one of the things i will never forget is the day mr. keller told (and showed us) the events that happened when he went to portland. (mr. keller and the strip club..lol)
some other things i will never forget would be the carbon oxygen cycle, dna, and photosynthesis. okay and disecting frogs!!
TiAnna
from the readings I learned that there are a lot of details about things like paper or plastic and the glass walled apartments.
from the dissections I learned that frogs are creepishly close to our own body structure (and that it is all but impossible to get the smell of dissection fluid out of your nose. eeeee-yuck!!!)
And I also learned that people in this town actually value reading and learn from it. For most of my time in Biology I was staring at the wall straining to read the reviews taped and tacked and stapled to the walls.
Erin Stretch
Yeah umm I would say two things I learned were gas prices are going up and that rice is important,
one thing I will remember over all is when we were sitting in 5th period and that desk collapsed in on its self ...

i will never forget poverty and how badly it errects the world or the glass house! totally weird wo would do it? i couldn't ever forget that people throw their poop out thewindows either!!! gross!!!!!
i learned how DNA works and how different types of animal bodies work
wow. keller i learned soo many things! i like those readings because they make you think about our world. I learned that reading is very important and that there are so many things on in our economy. my most memorable memory was the first time i did my current even and there you were keller picking on me because i did that redhead article. haha i miss mr bunt.

Well, I can't exactly narrow down everything I learned this year to just two simple little facts. I just simply learned too much. Now while I already knew mostly everything taught this year, I didn't know that it went into that much detail. Sometimes the details were mind boggling. Such as when we were studying cells. Those things are so tiny! And then when you start thinking about the molecules that are even smaller that make up the cells. And then the atoms that are even smaller than the molecules. And then you can go even smaller until you get to the tiny little strings that make up the universe.
I also learned a lot about what was going on in the world. I had no idea things could get so bad that people use flying toilets. I really enjoyed the readings Mr. Keller gave us. They always seemed like they were random topics, but we need to know these things so that we realize what is going on in the world around us. Our eyes must be opened.
As for an experience...I will never forget when Mr. Keller snuck into Lightfoot's fourth period dressed as a giant pink bunny for Easter. He managed to get to the center of the classroom and just scream in someone's ear without anyone noticing. That was hilarious.
-Jacob Haun
the first one was the DNA i thought that was interesting when i lerned about it. the other was lerning parts of the worms, grasshoppers, and the frog. i love it, it was more fun to cut them open and lern whats inside and what they look like.
Mindy
Two things that I learned in Biology this year were that Mitochondria are the power house of the cell, and how DNA is constructed in a double helix. (adenine, cytosine, thymine, and guamine are the four nitrogen bases)
I have many memorable moments in biology... butterfiles, worms, grasshoppers, frogs... but I would have to say that my most memorable would have to be when a giant pink bunny hopped into the class room!
Allie
I learned that there are tons of people in other countries that have things a lot worse off then we do and i learned that i should probably ride my bike when i can instead of drive :)
Hmm....two things I found most intersting in biology lets see..I think my first one would have to be How people in Afghanistan are treated and how little we care about it also my second would be DNA I absolutly love it!!!!.....now my most memorable moment I would have to say when I first met keller I thought he was some crazy looney guy and it turns out he was but he is also someone I enjoyed having as a teacher and somebody who I learned so much from :)
Priscilla
1. Photosynthesis
2. More about the worm
The one moment that I remember most is when we talked about the tree man.
So, what I learned in Biology, hmm let me think about it for a second. :) Well I think my favorite topic would definatly be genetics. It is so interesting learning about heredity and all the possible outcomes and stuff. For me this was a really easy subject to grasp (I guess it helped that I was in Zoology and we had just finished that unit.)
I think the other thing I learned was about things going on in the world. With the readings and stuff I became a lot more conscientious to things around me. I understand so much more about the world and the people in it.
The most memorable moment in class, well lets think (again). There are SSOO many. But I will have to say, Keller dressing up in his bunny suit. I was in another room taking a test and when I came back into the room Keller was gone, I didn't know where he was. All of a sudden he comes back and he's in a bunny suit! It was pretty funny.
two new things ...for me it would have to be the fact that who we are is based alot on how are siblings are..and that are bodies are just amazing machines..(too much to go into detail about)..
most memorable memory would definetly have to be the disections...alot of funny memories from that and it was my first time disecting animals..
