Question of the Week: May 5

In the course of our academic careers to date, we have had many different teachers with unique styles of teaching: some present just the facts, others involve us in an analysis of a topic, and a few teachers use fun activities. However, every student learns differently. What kind of teaching is best for you? What type of activities would you like to see a teacher do to help you learn?

I am best to hear and see what I am supposed to be doing. I especially learn from the hearing though.

The best way I learn is hands on. It also helps me if the teacher explains when in my life and career I will be using the information I am given, this helps because I can make that connection when I need to use it.

I like lectures and well, even though this isn't normal I like taking notes during a lecture. Hands on and visual is all fine I can learn a variety of ways. But either through lectures or personal study I learn the best.

I am a very visual learner. I learn best with diagrams and pictures. I am not an audio learner because I tend to space out a lot when people lecture me about something.

The best way for me to learn is for teachers to come up with cool ways to learn. Like fun activites. Its boring when a teacher sits there and talks and talks they should just realize that half of the class is falling asleep. you can't expect teens to follow what your sayin if your talking longer than 20minutes and its not intresting. So Keller stop talking so much hahaha just kidding. No but seriously give a hint to Mr.lightfoot.

Usually more interactive involved teaching helps me better because I tend to use my daily memory moments on things that were different.
Also, I learn better when I have music or rhymes to associate to what I am learning. Like, if I turn something into a song or a rhyme it's much easier for me to remember. I used to make quite a few songs to remember cells/waves back in middle school, or putting rhymes or key words to the elements and their abbreviations last year. That's just how I can associate and remember important information that I need to memorize or keep for later on.

definitley hands on activities, for some reason it just sticks to my brain more than just reading out of a textbook. Also i usually remember everthing and understand things more when i'm participating in doing something

The way that i learn best is probably to just be shown and one of the things that i don't like teachers to do is after they tell us what to do and then keep going on and on about it. For the most part if it is something simple i get it the first time i dont' like when the explanation takes longer then what we are supposed to do.

as long as somebody isnt just telling me the info, im usually good. the way that i remember it best is either to do a hands-on project to go with it or discuss it. if you can get me passionate about it and turn it into something that i want to know, then sweet. getting into a class debate is really good. thats why i think that classes like math and history are so hard for a lot of people. someone just tells you how it is, and then expects you to know it. even if you tell me an algebraic function and have me write it down doesnt mean i understand it.
id like to see a more of a connection between the information given and why i should know it..i think thatd help a lot

I'm one of those students that i would like if the teacher like to explain slowly and accurately than the student would be able to know much easier like me if i know nothing about subject but if the teacher explain well i will learn better.i want the teacher to show me how to do that subject and gave us more note, because i 'm a visual person.

Well the best way for me to learn is if the teacher shows visual aides and actually teaches it. I hate it when teachers just give a worksheet, and expect us to fill it out without them teaching it first. Then they don't go over the answers. It just doesn't help. But I just like it when they teach about it... lecture I guess.

To begin with, I can certainly say that I do not do well with a textbook. It is an entirely unpleasant way to learn, in my opinion.

The way I learn best is an amalgam of various teaching methods. Engaging lecture (i.e. not merely presenting facts, but filled with analysis/humor/uniqueness), along with visual aids, if possible, and followed by reinforcement in the form of an activity, whether a worksheet, questions, or a game, is a winning combination. For this to work, however, it is essential for the teacher to ensure a solid understanding of the concepts taught in one such cycle before going on to the next. For example, they should confirm that the Light Cycle is thoroughly understood before continuing on to the Dark Reactions.

There are many different ways I can learn. Each teacher has their own style and I have been able to learn from all of them. It is hard for me to learn something, though, if it is just audio. This would include lectures and such. I tend to lose focus and daydream or fall asleep. :) It is nice when I have a visual to look at so I can continue paying attention. Also I tend to lose focus when there is a lot of writing. I hate writing out long definitions and descriptions. I know this is a bad habit, but I would like school a whole lot better if there was less writing.
I also like working at my own pace. Sometimes it takes me a little bit longer to write stuff down or whatever. There are also times that I get the concept and I just want to get my work so I can finish and sleep or read. :) I know Keller, I am lazy! :)

the best way i learn is like when we do something to learn it insted of someone just telling me. if a teacher talks too long i just get tired and then i can't focus anymore. so then i really don't learn anything at all.

i learn best when the teacher shows me what to do AND explains it becauce sometimes i dont understand what there telling me so showing me helps me see what im doing.

hmmm, well to me the best way would be being able to do things hands on and more assistance. Also, always try to make it fun because when you do so then you get more of the students attention. Which is very important.

I really like it when a teacher explains what we're doing shows us an example or two then let's us on our own for a while and then asks us if we need more help. I hate it when a teacher just gives us a worksheet and expects the class to know how to do it without any help.

i'm more of a hands on learner, but if i don't see it done first then i can't learn it right or as easy. have to do it over and over and over! have to get down and dirty with my hands to figure andything out other wise i get lost cause wacthing it done puts me to sleep if tis done to long or too much

i am more of a one on one kind of guy. Knowing what I'm supposed to do and doing it.
My favorite kind of teaching is when it is funny. If you can turn something hard into a funny song or game then i think i and everyone else will learn it better.

I think I do best with book learning in most cases. I read pretty quickly just skimming and then I go back to actually truly pick out the parts that are necessary. Sometimes I do take notes but mostly I just reread it several times to let it sink in. For me reading is a fun activity so when I associate fun reading with class I remember it more easily because heaven knows I space out during lectures.
Although I did like Schoolhouse Rock. I learned my entire Preamble from that.

i guess im a visual learner and a hands on kind of person. i like to see wat im doing before i go off and do it because it helps to register watever im learning in my brain.
